Day 8: Cannolis, Sliema, Mellieha, and a party

Image
Milana : In the morning I went to visit my Auntie Marlene and Uncle Edwin. After that, I took a bus to Msida and Sliema with my mom, my dad, Chloe and Nanna. We walked around and browsed the shelves of souvenir shops. Then we stopped at an outdoor cafe and took a table. My parents got some fresh cannolies. My mom got some tea, my Nanna got some coffee, and my dad got a cappuccino. Next we went to Mellieha Beach for the second time. The water was much warmer than the last time we went but the water wasn't that clear. If you go farther out then you'd find a sand bar. Before it was time to leave I started juggling my soccer ball. I got a bunch of positive comments. One man told me that I should join the Valletta (capital of Malta) soccer team. Later on that night, my parents hosted a party at our place. The party was for some of the family to get together. Chloe: Today I went to Sliema. I ate lunch with my sister, Nanna, and mom. I went to the beach with my sist

Day 7: Aquarium

Image
Milana : At 11:00 in the morning, Martin and Maisie picked me up and took me to the Malta National Aquarium. First, we got our picture taken. Next we looked at fish and other underwater animals. My favorites were the stingrays, the coral, the sea urchins, and the electric eels. After that I went to a restaurant with my mom, my dad, Chloe, Maisie, and Martin. It had another beautiful view of a bay. I shared chicken nuggets, chips (french fries) and a salad with my sister Chloe. I went back to my room and relaxed. After a couple hours, I went to a restaurant called Munchy Monkey with my mom, my dad, Chloe, Nanna, and Nannu. For dinner I ate fish and chips and so did Nanna and Nannu. The fish I had was the best I've ever eaten! It tasted crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside which made me think that it was fresh. For dessert I ate a delicious, moist carrot cake, yummm! Chloe:  My family went to the aquarium. There were sea-horses and sharks. I went t

Day 6: Karl & Marie Claire's house, lunch, and Mdina

Image
Milana : This morning Auntie Marthese and Uncle Jeff picked me up and took me to Fgura where Karl and Marie-Claire live. Their house was amazing. At their house I met Marie-Claire's niece who will be a flower girl with Chloe. Her niece's name is Leah-Anna. After hanging out at Karl and Marie-Claire's house, Auntie Marthese and Uncle Jeff took me to a restaurant in Zurrieq. I ate pene with red sauce and calamari. In Malta, they make their calamari in rings. In the US we make calamari with the tentacles sticking out. The food was delicious and the view of Filfla was beautiful. I went back to my room and got ready to go to dinner. Later on, Josef, Jake, and Kylie picked me up and took me to a restaurant in Mdina. Mdina is called the silent city. It's called that because there isn't that many cars on the road. Mdina used to be the capital city of Malta but Valletta is the capital now. Unfortunately Caroline and Julia couldn't come because Juli

Day 5: New beach, ice cream, and more family

Image
Milana: This morning I went to another beach called Golden Bay. I brought my soccer ball to the beach. My dad and I passed and juggled the ball. After playing for a while our feet got hot. I thought that the beaches in Malta were perfect because the sand would make you hot and the sea would make you cool. Next we went back to our apartment to clean up. Right after, Maisie and Martin came. We went to Bugibba to eat some ice cream. I got Oreo and Kit-Kat ice cream. Ice cream was perfect for a hot day in Malta. Then we went back to our hotel for dinner. Later on Auntie Marthese, Uncle Jeff, and Antoine came. I learned that Antoine is in the Maltese military. Chloe: I went swimming at Golden Bay beach. I found lots of shells at Golden Bay beach in the evening. I met my dad's cousin Antoine.

Day 4: Valletta (Malta's Capital), Pastizzi, Knights of Malta, & Caravaggio

Image
Milana: For the first day of June, I went to Valletta which is the capital city of Malta. For lunch I ate one of my favorite Maltese pastries. I ate pastizzi which is like a crispy, crunchy, flaky pastry with either ricotta cheese or pizelli (which has peas). My favorite is the pizelli pastizzi. I ate this at Eddie's Cafe Regina.  Valletta is where the prime minister of Malta works. This city was established by the knights of St. Malta in the 1500s. The Knights of Malta, earlier called the Knights of St. John, were a group of people who helped the sick, poor, and injured pilgrims. Valletta was built as a fortress to protect the people of the city. I also went to the St. John's Cathedral. The art on the walls and ceiling were marvelous. I saw incredible paintings by Caravaggio. Caravaggio was an Italian who lived in Malta for some time. He made a painting called the Beheading of St. John the Baptist . I saw the huge (12 feet by 17 feet) original painting.

Day 3: Beach, Great-Grandmother, Msida, and Feasting with Family

Image
Milana : Today I have done many things for the first time. At 8:30 in the morning I arrived at Mellieha Beach with Chloe, my mom, my dad, Nanna, and Masie. The Mediterranean water was cold in the morning but eventually the sun warmed it up. As I expected, the water in Malta is much more clear than the water at Cape Cod. The sand was much thinner than the sand in Cape Cod as well. A hopz biz-zejt (Maltese sandwich) is always delicious on a Maltese beach! It was the first time I've gone to a beach in Malta! Having fun with Maisie on the beach! Next I took a bus to Gwardamanga to see my buz nanna (great grandmother) for the first time. She is my grandmother's mom. I learned that she lived in Msida. Meeting our great-grandmother, Maria Brincat, for the first time. To end my day I went to my auntie Adlene, Uncle Chris, auntie Agnes, uncle Joe, and my cousin Ezra's place for dinner. That place is also in Msida. Ezra is a 1 year old who is the cutest! I've neve

Day 2: Paris to Malta, Meeting Family & Getting Settled

Image
Milana: Today I took a plane from Paris, France to Malta. My family members picked me up and took me to my aunt's house where we hung out. I ate some delicious traditional Maltese foods such as pastizzi. I noticed some differences such as seeing cacti, people driving on the other side of the road, and the time zone differences. In Malta I noticed that there are much more sounds of cars honking and beeping. After unpacking my clothes and shoes, I met my cousin Maisie who I haven't met for 2 years. The last time I met her was in Canada, at my grandparent's house. Tonight we will be having a sleepover together. Tomorrow we will go to the beach. Chloe: Today I am in Malta. My cousin Maisie is sleeping with my sister and I. Tomorrow we are going to the beach. The houses are different because they have balconies and four floors.
